Bio

Sprung from the polder’s anonymous clay, in the corner of a long-forgotten tarmac of Amsterdam Airport. It turned out to be a hopeless matter of time before this mournful scene would take hold of Kassar for good. Formed in 2015, their jamming soon got in sync with the barren landscape they dwell in; nihilistic, unsung post-metal, with cumbersome doom and post rock as the predominant ingredients. Their first EP Leporsonidoj – which roughly translates as ‘Children of the hare sounds’ – already contained a hideous sneak peek of more desparable things to come. The debut was followed by the 2021 trilogy EP MOW/O\QOD, which offered dissonant noise, repetitive drone and seedy characters.

For their first full length, Kassar took inspiration from one of the more remote doomlands nature has to offer: Mars. Directly inspired by Kim Stanely Robinson’s eponymous sci-fi trilogy, the band wrote 6 tracks -all titled MARS- which embody the story of an out-of-control attempt to colonize the infamous red planet. Recorded in E-sound studios (Weesp, the Netherlands), layers of noise, synths and horns were added to complete the malaise. With songs building deceptively toward the inevitable, it's Kassar's most focused work yet
